Room A4/A5 Part 1: Unlocking Advance Parole: An Introductory Workshop for College Campuses

Monday Nov. 04 - 10:00 AM - 11:05 AM (65 min)

This introductory workshop will equip higher education practitioners with the foundational knowledge to create educational travel opportunities for undocumented students through Advance Parole. We’ll cover the basic legal framework, eligibility criteria, and the steps needed to establish a successful program on your campus. Learn how to collaborate with immigration legal services, navigate potential risks, and design programs that foster personal and educational growth. By the end of this session, participants will have the tools to start developing programs that empower DACA/TPS recipients to travel for study abroad, research, or employment purposes.

Room A4/A5. Part 2: Advancing Travel Equity: Step-by-Step Guide to Launching an Advance Parole Program for Undocumented Students

Monday Nov. 04 - 11:05 AM - 12:05 PM (60 min)

Building on the introductory session, this workshop will showcase how Pasadena City College's Dream Resource Center successfully developed a fully-funded Advance Parole trip for DACAmented students. Designed for higher education practitioners, this session provides a step-by-step guide on how to develop, fund, and implement international travel programs that promote both educational and personal growth through Advance Parole. Topics include recruitment strategies, organizing information sessions, and managing essential logistics such as lodging, transportation, and activities that created a meaningful itinerary. Participants will also learn how we established a supportive environment by fostering community building and ensuring students felt prepared for the trip, both emotionally and logistically, with resources to help manage anxiety and uncertainties. This workshop will touch on the importance of global citizenship and cultural immersion, offering practical tools for presenting programs to college executives and securing institutional support. By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped with actionable insights to help undocumented students access international travel and cultural exchange opportunities.
